Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop is a photo editing tool that is often used for advanced post-processing. It uses a raster graphics layer-based approach, also called pixel-based. With this editing system, images are represented as a layer stack, which is also called a stack of layers. Each layer in a layer stack has its own unique characteristics, including position, size, and transparency.

You can add images, patterns, strokes, and textures to your Photoshop layers. The following tutorials provide an overview of the Photoshop work flow.

The Photoshop Layers Workflow

The tools used to manipulate these layers with each image’s changes are called layers. Photoshop has a number of different types of layers, including:

**Brush Tool**

Use this tool to paint or draw on a selected image.
When you’re painting on an image, you use the _brush settings_ to define the range of colors. To do this, click **Brush Size** on the toolbar, or press **B**, and choose the size of your brush. Hold down the mouse button while you move your mouse over the image to paint. To paint on a new area, select an existing area of the image and then press to paint over that area. To paint across an existing selection, select a range of pixels and press to paint on the entire range.
The Flow feature allows you to paint your image so that the color flows from one area to another. Start painting, and when your brush is near the edge of the canvas, click **Flow Settings** on the Brush tool’s menu. This opens a dialog box where you can set the number of pixels you want to paint on before the color flows over to the next area. When you’re satisfied with the number of pixels before the flow stops, click OK.

You can use the Pen tool to create a selection. In addition, you can draw on the edges of a selection and, when you’re done, use the selection to paint another area.
To draw a line using the Pen tool, hold down the mouse button and drag a line. You can use the tool for drawing selections or paths. To start drawing a selection or path, hold down the mouse button and move the Pen tool while you drag.

When you’re happy with the shape of your selection, select it with the Select tool ( ) and click **Type** on the menu to set the shape of the line you’re creating.

You can use the Pen tool to draw lines and shapes, including bezier curves, rectangles, circles, and ovals. The ability to create all these shapes in one click is a real time-saver.

You can move the Pen tool by dragging it with your mouse and you can zoom by scrolling your mouse wheel. You can also create compound paths and rotate your artwork.

For more information on using the Pen tool, see Chapter 2.

how to test if a property is in an interface

I have a class that implements an interface. I need to test if a certain property is in that interface. At the moment I do something like:
if (! (property instanceof //some interface) )

Is there a better way to do this?

You could try something like this:
Object.class.isInstance( property );

It’s not like instanceof, but it’s the equivalent. It’s also more useful in more complex situations where a null property might be allowed.
EDIT: You could make a helper method and static method like this:
public static boolean hasInterface(Class clazz, Class interface) {
return clazz.isInstance( interface );

public static T findInterface(Class clazz, Class interface) {
return clazz.cast( interface );

and then:
hasInterface( Object.class, UserInterface.class ); // true
hasInterface( User.class, UserInterface.class ); // false

And then:
findInterface( User.class, UserInterface.class ); // returns a user object
