The present invention relates to a disc cartridge and a disc drive for mounting therein the disc cartridge to read and write an information of a disc housed in the disc cartridge.
(2) Description of the Related Art
In recent years, hard disc drives or the like having an HDD (Hard Disk Drive) mounted thereon have become widespread in information equipments.
In the HDD, a disc that is capable of recording information thereon such as a magnetic disc or an optical disc is housed in a cartridge. The cartridge has a substantially rectangular disc chamber for accommodating the disc therein.
On one end side of the disc chamber, a shutter for opening or closing an entrance of the disc chamber is arranged. On the other end side of the disc chamber, a head is mounted for accessing and reading/writing information of the disc.
When the information of the disc is read or written, a magnetic head or an optical head is caused to move close to the disc.
At this time, the head is opposed to the disc with a predetermined interval, and the opening or the closing of the entrance is controlled by the shutter to produce a floating condition of the head in which the head floats in a state of being slightly spaced apart from the disc.
Heretofore, the disc cartridge of the aforementioned type has a shutter opening and closing mechanism for opening and closing the entrance of the disc chamber. The shutter opening and closing mechanism includes an opening and closing portion for opening and closing the entrance of the disc chamber, a rack/pinion type operating portion for moving the opening and closing portion toward and away from the disc chamber, and a shutter driver for driving the opening and closing portion.
This shutter opening and closing mechanism opens and closes the entrance of the disc chamber, and is mounted on the HDD. A mechanism for driving the above-described shutter opening and closing mechanism is included in the drive of the HDD. As the mechanism for driving the shutter opening and closing mechanism, a mechanism for driving the opening and closing portion in response to a request of opening and closing the entrance of the disc chamber is used.

It would still be a good thing for them to use the GPL, or any other copyleft license, as they could use it for themselves, or for any entities that they build for themselves.
However, if they are making Free Software, and they are using the GPL as their license, they must follow the rules of the GPL license, or lose their claim to Free Software.
They are free to disregard the rules of the GPL and call their non-GNU license the Free Software license if they want. But, they will be legally wrong and they will be branded as non-Free Software.
