Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.
AutoCAD is one of a range of Autodesk software that includes, but is not limited to, 3ds Max, Inventor, Maya, Plant 3D, and Rendition.
Multiple applications, and the design features of AutoCAD are improved in newer versions. From the 2016 version, the number of objects has been increased from 10,000 to 1,000,000. The latest release of AutoCAD, 2019, represents a substantial change in the application’s graphics and workflow. In the previous version, 2D drawings and objects could not be viewed and interacted with using a 3D camera, and the 3D viewing features (e.g. sweep and lock camera) were limited and difficult to use.
The AutoCAD numbering system has started at version 10 and has increased with every release. Each major release of AutoCAD has included significant changes to AutoCAD’s 2D drawing and modeling capabilities, followed by significant improvements to its 3D viewing and design and modeling capabilities. This resulted in a gradual increase in the number of objects that could be drawn in a drawing over time. In the 1999 version, a major change occurred that resulted in the version number being reset to 10, a practice that continued up to the introduction of AutoCAD 2019.
Development of AutoCAD followed a somewhat different path from other Autodesk applications, such as SketchUp, where the product undergoes continuous, comprehensive development. Rather, development of AutoCAD was dictated by design improvements and the need to compete with other CAD vendors.
AutoCAD was first released as a desktop application for use on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. It was developed by Art Technology Group (ATG) and later by John Walker & Associates. There are two basic versions of AutoCAD. The original “AutoCAD” version was designed for use on personal computers (PCs) with IBM-compatible operating systems. The “AutoCAD LT” version was designed for use on desktop computers running an older operating system (e.g. MS-DOS, OS/2, and Amiga), or with microcomputers running a non-standard operating system.
In the initial release of AutoCAD, two versions of the product existed. One was version 2, which was based on the original AutoCAD version and which ran on DOS operating systems. The other was version 3, which was based on
Unlike 2D CAD software, the file format used by AutoCAD is actually in 3D, since it is a 3D drawing program. Since the end of the 1990s, all AutoCAD software supports the standard AutoCAD 2004 file format which is a hybrid of the standard format, with additional features such as associating drawings with measurements.
AutoCAD is bundled with AutoCAD LT, and sold as a stand-alone product., Autodesk offers AutoCAD LT for Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms, as well as for Microsoft Windows Server and Windows Terminal Server; AutoCAD LT Mobile (for iOS, Android, and Windows), AutoCAD LT Service (for Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms), AutoCAD LT Web Authoring (for Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms); AutoCAD LT Architectural (for Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms); and AutoCAD LT LT (for Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms), which is licensed to one or more entities at a time. AutoCAD LT is bundled with the following applications: Civil 3D, Mechanical Desktop, Civil 3D Electrical, Mechanical Desktop Electrical, Mechanical Desktop Industrial, PTC Creo, UniCreo, Primavera, and NX.
AutoCAD LT for Mac is bundled with the following applications: Civil 3D, Mechanical Desktop, Civil 3D Electrical, Mechanical Desktop Electrical, Mechanical Desktop Industrial, PTC Creo, UniCreo, Primavera, and NX. Go to the menu bar and click on File->AutoCAD.
Click on AutoCAD icon.
You will be asked to enter the key ( License Key) from the e-mail you received after downloading the Autodesk Autocad.
Click on OK and Autodesk Autocad will launch and automatically activate.
I am running the trial version of Autocad LT 2016 on Windows 10 and using a ‘free’ copy of Microsoft office 2015, too.
I am not using AutoCAD 2016, as it does not support Windows 10. Instead, I am using AutoCAD LT 2016.
My license key is just the base license key, without the e-mailed activation code.
Then, I downloaded the 32-bit ‘autocad_lite_win32.exe’ file from:
Then, I double-clicked on the ‘autocad_lite_win32.exe’ to install the trial version of Autocad.
A normal installation complete message will appear. No matter what license key you enter, it will always show the message:
Cannot complete install because an entry in the Windows registry is missing or corrupt.
So, I used a different account on my computer to ‘try’ installing Autocad. I then manually installed it by following the steps at the link given.
However, on my first attempt to use Autocad (trial version), I got the ‘Windows cannot find the Autodesk Autocad file in the registry’ error message. So, I reinstalled it, thinking that it may have corrupted something.
The second time I used Autocad (trial version) on my main account, it worked fine. It then worked fine on the second account. So, I am using my main account for all of my Autocad installations.
Hope this helps someone else.
